Support of people with special needs e.V.

The non-profit organization ANANSE supports projects for people with special needs in the setting of cooperative development aid. The members of the organization work strictly on a voluntary basis.

Special needs

People with special needs are put at a disadvantage in their participation in social life.

Disadvantages result for example:

from social segregation

  • through aggravated access to education
  • through aggrevated access to medical supporet
  • through physical and mental handicaps

These disadvantages are especially enforced through poverty in developing countries. Women and girls are often the most suffering from the sum of disadvantages.

Cooperative development aid

ANANSES basic principle of development aid focus-ses on the cooperation with the people on the spot. Constant personal cooperation with the ones affected and others in position of confidence is our prior condition for the support of projects through ANANSE.

It is our goal to cooperativly design and improve the circumstances of life of the people in developing countries according to their own ideas.

Our work concentrates on projects and measures in the following three areas:

  • social and professional integration
  • education and training
  • political and personal emancipation

Cooperation is characterized through a living profes-sional, cultural and personal exchange. First ideas and concepts are being developed in common talks. The realization of projects is documented and the experien-ces are shared in many ways. Through these procee-dings cooperation is profitable for everyone envolved.

Ananse - Stories that connect

The spider ANANSE is the main character in a lot of traditional stories from Ghana (West-Africa). The ANANSE-Stories are a means for people to connect with each other in Ghana.

To connect people and to solve problems is also the aim of our organization. Just like the spider weaves her net, our organization wants to connect the efforts of people in different countries and continents. And our main focus remains: People with special needs.

Our projects

To be able to really co-operate we lay stress on permanent and reliable communication with our local partners. Up to now we support projects in Ghana and Kenya.

In Ghana we support projects in Nkoranza and Wenchi, both in the Brong Ahafo Region. In Nkoranza exists an orphanage for disabled children with a workshop for the older kids. Ananse supports by searching foster parents for the children. There is a governmental school for the mentally disabled next to the compound as well, which gets support from Ananse. Beside that Ananse financiates a local fonds for people with a disability.

In Wenchi we financiate the construction and implementation of a vocational training centre for disabled and non-disabled people.

In Kenya Ananse works together with the local organization Salus Oculi Kenya, supporting projects for people with visual impairment. These projects are for example workshops for teachers of visually impaired pupils, equipment with specific material or supporting a school with the implementation of an income-generating project. We just finished the construction and equipment of a ressource centre for the visually impaired at a primary school in Kapsowar, Marakwet District.
