Cooperation with blind and partially sighted experts

When we visit the places of our projects, we often meet blind and partially sighted people who were supported by Ananse. Whether they attended school with a support centre or See Africa paid the school fees or promotion of vocational training. Many alumni keep in touch with Mike Ng’eno or Salus Oculi Kenya (SOK) and tell them about their private life, where they work and in which areas they develop their knowledge. If a school or a project is in need of a consultation, SOK contacts alumni to ask them to give expert advice.

It is a great pleasure for us to see alumni being in a new role: When the Vocational Training Centre in Kilifi was implemented, we met again with Riziki Karisa who attended Bahari Girls Secondary School as a young blind girl. During that time she profited from Ananse’s support. Meanwhile, she is working as a special education teacher and is a member of the committee for the construction of the vocational training centre.
